AT the March 5 ‘Remembering the Children’ event in Vancouver, church leaders committed themselves to working with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC),  established to bring resolution to the residential schools scandal.

Denominations represented included the United Church of Canada; the Roman Catholic Church; the Presbyterian Church in Canada; and the Anglican Church of Canada.

Speakers included Chief Bobby Joseph (pictured left), retired executive director of the B.C. Indian Residential Schools Survivors’ Society; and National Indigenous Anglican Bishop Mark MacDonald.

Remembering the Children (originally called Sacred Walk) was part of a multi-city tour to promote the TRC. Online at rememberingthechildren.ca, a number of church leaders share reflections  –  including Presbyterian Hans Kouwenberg, Anglican Fred Hiltz, and the United Church’s  David Giuliano.                     – Peter Biggs
