35 under 35

The good folk at Victoria-based S.A.L.T.S. (Sail and Life Training Society) are excited about the inclusion of their executive director, Loren Hagerty, in the ‘35 under 35’ list. Christian leaders, all under age 35, are being honoured in the National Recognition Project. Sponsoring organizations are Bridgeway Foundation, Arrow Leadership, ChristianWeek and the Canadian Council of Christian Charities. Each of the 35 leaders will receive professional development incentives from Arrow, and nationwide exposure for their ministries in a ChristianWeek supplement.

Stalled ship

S.A.L.T.S. also made the news recently when their former tall ship, the Robertson II, went aground on a reef near Saturna Island. As of press time, several efforts to rescue the vessel have been unsuccessful. KidsGames

KidsGames 2007 attracted substantial interest in Esquimalt/Victoria West July 15 – 20. The sports camp ministry – hosted by High Point Community Church, with considerable help from the Salvation Army and Scripture Union – provided young people with a sports/Bible/craft experience. KidsGames is a rapidly growing feature in several countries, and brought participation from several churches.

Hear O Israel

Marty and Sue Shoub – originally from B.C., but presently residing in Haifa, Israel – were in Victoria last month for  a potluck Shabbat dinner sponsored by Hear O Israel. Marty, described as a ‘Jewish believer,’ was drawn several years ago to emigrate to Israel. He and Sue work with a congregation of Israeli believers, known as Tents of Mercy, to help encourage Israel’s messianic movement. The dinner was held at Lambrick Park Church.
