ANYONE familiar with the Canadian Christian music scene in the late 1980s and 90s will remember the energetic, sometimes quirky sounds of B.C.’s Hokus Pick.

In addition to producing a long string of top-selling albums in Canada, the group worked with some of the biggest names in the Christian music industry, such as dc Talk, Steve Taylor and Rich Mullins.

Gospel Music Association Canada recognized Hokus Pick with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The band regrouped to perform live on stage at the 29th Annual Covenant Awards in Calgary October 26.

B.C. was well represented among the winners, with Brian Doerksen taking six Covenant awards, including Artist of the Year; Starfield won four, including Group of the Year. The evening was hosted by Carolyn Arends and Leland Klassen.      – Kevin Pollard
