The circle of history

I think there is some truth to this idea. God works in cyclical patterns. Look at the universe for your evidence! But, of course, God is outside of time and history and can change the course of history when He wants. Just look at Ninevah in the book of Jonah! Maybe our Western society needs to cover itself in sackcloth and ashes and petition God to forgive us...

I agree, this article is nuts, and I wouldn't agree that everyone who believes in a higher power has a cyclical view of history. If someone asked me, I would say the Christian view would be linear---though there might be some mini-cycles (ie. sin, punishment, repentence, blessing), God is weaving one over-arching story that has a beginning and ending out of it.

Barry, your nuts. God is bigger than any cycles we might see. If you are looking for cycles, check out the 400 year cycles in the Bible. ... but even then, God is bigger than this. There is always a crisis coming, and God is bigger than each crisis that occurs.
