New DVD based on Janette Oke novel
Twentieth Century Fox has released Love's Unfolding Dream, an adaptation of Canadian Christian author Janette Oke's novel of the same name, on DVD. In a June 17 press release she praised the faithfulness of the adaptation: "I believe God can give people multiple callings in life, In Love's Unfolding Dream Belinda may well discover that her won desires actually match with God's will for her career choice, bringing an end to her stuggles."
Rosebud's 25th on CTV
Rosebud Theatre will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year by playing host to Canada's number one morning TV show, CTV's Canada AM, June 25. Rosebud Theatre and School of the Arts is named after its small town in rural Albertan town. They entertain over 40,000 people annually.
New Presbyterian moderator
Toronto's Cheol Soon Park was chosen as moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada during its 134th General Assembly earlier this month. Park was born in Korea, the second son of a Presbyterian minister, and moved to Canada in 1983. He has been minister of Toronto Korean Presbyterian Church since 1991.
Mission agencies form new association
Following the Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC) convention June 6, representatives from 10 of LCC's 12 mission-oriented listed service organizations and three auxiliaries met to create an umbrella organization focusing on supporting LCC's mission and ministry. Under the name CLAIM (Canadian Lutheran Agencies in Mission), the group's vision is to "work together in unity sharing the concern of reaching the lost with a love and concern for all people." Heading the organization on an interim basis are Edwin Lehman, Rod Ludke and Glenn Schaeffer. Also at the convention, Lutherans elected Robert Bugbee, 52, to serve as the LCC's third president in its 20-year history. He currently serves Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kitchener, Ontario.

Compassion Canada doctorate
Barry Slauenwhite, President and CEO of Compassion Canada, has received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Canada Christian College. The presentation was made in honour of his 25 years of service with Compassion during the College's graduation ceremony on June 7. Since 1963, Compassion Canada has facilitated one-on-one child-development through partnership with local churches. Compassion International reaches over 900,000 children in 24 of the world's poorest nations.
EFC speaks about Chinese persecution
Jocelyn Durston, international policy analyst for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC), recently appeared before the Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development to give a report on the treatment of Christian minorities in China. The EFC's Religious Liberty Commission released a report last week on the same topic.
Prayer in Toronto City Hall
Christian leaders in Toronto led by PrayerGTA will gather to pray the morning of July 2. According to the news release, "the focus is on the many facets of our city from our godly roots and beginnings to prayer for broken and impoverished areas as well as praying for our government and our leaders." Special days of prayer will take place six times a year.
