From city hall to the ANiC
John MacDonald, 58, has been hired by the Anglican Network in Canada (ANiC) to manage program development. The ANiC is a group of Anglican congregations that have left the Anglican Church of Canada to come under the jurisdiction of the Anglican Archdiocese of the Southern Cone in South America. MacDonald has resigned from his current position as chief administrative officer for the city of Niagara Falls, Ontario, effective October 31, after serving the city for 31 years. He is also a warden of the ANiC parish of Good Shepherd in St Catharines, Ontario. The ANiC will have its inaugural synod November 13 - 15.
From the Edmonton Oilers to the CUCA
Andreas Schwabe has been appointed executive assistant to Gerald Krispin, president of Concordia University College of Alberta. Schwabe has spent the last 11 years with the Edmonton Oilers, managing the hockey team's online presence. CUCA is operated by the Lutheran Church-Canada.
From the classroom to the stage
John Sutherland has been appointed general manager of Pacific Theatre, a Christian-based theatre group in Vancouver. Sutherland earlier served as Dean of Business and Economics at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC for 16 years, as a member of the Abbotsford BC School Board, as a non-profit consultant and as a radio talk show host. The theatre is launching its 25th anniversary season October 17 with a production of Emil Sher's play, Mourning Dove.
Worship leading is an art
Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ontario, in collaboration with the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, is hosting a one-day worship equipping conference entitled 'The Art of Worship Team Leadership' September 20. Registration must be received by September 15.
They have a dream to raise money
The Calgary Dream Centre's sixth annual radiothon fundraiser will be held September 18. The Centre offers recovery and transformation to homeless men based on biblical principles and Christian love. The fundraiser will be on three radio stations: SHINE FM, AM1140 and CHQR.

Something for everybody
Youth and Family, a ministry of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, is offering a series of retreats this autumn, including a 'Youth Pastors Summit' September 22 - 23, an event for Grade 12 students called 'Potential Impact' September 26 - 28), an event for pastors' kids called 'Link' September 26 - 28, an event for ministry wives called 'Refresh' November 7 - 9, and parenting seminars with Dave and Donalyn Currie November 9 - 12.
Something just for young couples
The Theology Commission of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has released a pastoral message to young couples entitled 'What Does Marriage Add to Your Love?' The bishops wrote: "We wish to encourage and support you in your search to fulfill your deepest desires and find happiness. We suggest some thoughts for your reflection, and share some insights on Christian marriage that have been offered by other couples engaged on the same journey."
But don't eat the apple
'Take and Eat' is the theme of the 2008 Creation Care conference sponsored by Canadian Mennonite University, Providence College, A Rocha, the Loewen Foundation, the Buller Foundation and Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The purpose of the conference is "to discuss and explore how growing, processing, and eating food are practical expressions of Christian discipleship and therefore can bring glory to God by supporting the care of creation and the care of people." The event will be held October 3 - 5 at Providence College in Otterburne, Manitoba.
She thinks these videos will advance character
MakeYouThink has launched its third series of films designed to help teachers and youth leaders "advance the depth of character" of students. The three new films address Responsibility, Hope and Giving. Series I addressed Self-Worth, Honesty and Purpose, and Series II addressed Respect, Love and Perseverance. The executive producer of MakeYouThink is Shauna Simmonds, Miss Ontario 2007 and 2008.
