Discover language and culture at the Canada Institute
of Linguistics (CanIL)!
Our degree programs are designed for anyone preparing
for cross-cultural ministries – including Bible translation,
community and literacy development, teaching English as a second language,
sociolinguistic survey, and other language and culture work. Degrees are
offered through Trinity Western University and ACTS Seminaries in Langley,
B.C.
Linguistic studies assist in biblical language study,
while also providing a basis for communicating in other languages and
cultures. Recognize and pronounce hundreds of sounds from the world’s
languages; acquire other languages, making the most of your personal
learning styles. Develop alphabets, compile dictionaries and describe
grammars.
Many of the faculty and staff of CanIL have extensive
field experience with Wycliffe Bible Translators. A close-knit community
between students and professors provides for a rich learning and mentoring
experience. CanIL endeavors to “train trainers,” so that
graduates are ready to train others in their future ministry contexts.
Toward this end, there are many teaching assistant opportunities available
for qualifying students.
Not sure if linguistics is for you? Attend our unique
introductory summer session (mid-June to mid-August), which can be followed
up with additional summers in advanced courses.
