DELIVER US FROM ME–VILLE
Author: David Zimmerman
Publisher: David C. Cook
In Deliver us from Me-Ville, David Zimmerman nails the individualist way we live
with humour and insight. He welcomes us to Me-Ville, “the
You–topia where your home, place of work and even your place of
worship are customized to your discerning tastes. A super-exclusive club
where Self and Pride party, and Sacrifice and Humility can’t get past
the velvet ropes. A place where it’s all about you.” Zimmerman,
a writer and performer with the acting troupe Open Heart Drama, asks if
life is supposed to be this way. He examines some of the prideful people in
scripture, and demonstrates how they were changed through God’s
power.

CRAZY LOVE - OVERWHELMED BY A RELENTLESS GOD
Author: Francis Chan
Publisher: David C.Cook
Crazy Love helps us
refocus on the radical nature of God and our relationship to him. Author
Francis Chan writes: “It’s crazy, if you think about it. The
God of the universe – the creator of nitrogen and pine needles,
galaxies and E-minor – loves us with a radical, unconditional,
self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church,
sing songs and try not to cuss.” With an opening chapter titled
‘Stop praying,’ you might think he’s going too far, but
the book is a call to depth and an awakening of the church.

SEARCH & RESCUE BECOMING A DISCIPLE WHO MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Author: Neil Cole
Publisher: BakerBooks
In a covering letter with
Search & Rescue, BakerBooks urges us
“to live bravely and transform lives” and explains “why
the world needs you” –- yeah right! But author – and
former California beach lifeguard – Neil Cole actually presents a
very grounded and doable premise: “Real heroes do not emerge from
places of comfort, elegance and privilege but from pain, hardship and
trouble.” Now that is authentic Christianity! Very practically, he outlines
seven principles from Paul’s life that are worked through in
‘Life Transformation Groups’ – weekly meetings of just
two or three people. Cole’s book comes highly recommended;
there’s no doubt he is on to something.
